In the last few weeks I have learned that the gaming community in ut2k4 has pretty much degenerated into a "let's pick on Wolf" community... again. Examples?

The other day me and NmS were together on the NEW server. As with 90% of all public games we happen to participate in, on opposing teams, all good, fine, he rocked as usual etc blah... but then the impossible happened, I finally had him on my team for once. I was so happy that for once in who knows for how long I got him on my team to play with... until I noticed he wasn't playing, only messing around, getting himself intentionally killed or just standing around. You know, I admire the "fairplay and team balance" thing, there are not even many players who give a fuck, so kudos to you for doing that. But if you are that bored in a team you don't need to play at all, swap with someone in the opposing team, or do what Badassfrau or myself do, go spec. Would it really have been asked too much to get one lousy game -WITH- you on the team? That was so lame...

About 2 weeks ago - also on the new server - somebody joined with the exclusive and sole purpose of annoying the crap out of me. I am not sure he knew it was me or if he just picked on my aliasname I had at the time, but I should have made a screenshot of this. One good thing about him at least was, that he didn't lie about it! He said, and I quote verbatim: "I am your personal troll."

You wonder why I use aliasnames? Heck as soon as people know it's me playing they switch their behavior, either by always making the opponent team more difficult (have you ever noticed people balance away when I am on the winning team, but they rarely do when it's the other way round...?), or by playing good on the opponent team and bad as soon as they are (forced to switch) on mine... I mean okay, uphill battles are fine, a game that is unlosable is exactly as boring as a game that is unwinnable, but I absolutely -NEVER- get a break... and these days even aliasing doesn't help me anymore because either people recognize me by my playstyle, use the "whois" from antitcc or even the server admin broadcasts my identity.

All I ever wanted was to just play and have fun, just like any other random guy on a random server, but nobody wants me to. I have already retired from Unreal because of the bullshit, and now I am retiring from ut2k4 for the same reason, if there is no chance at having enjoyment in the game, or the crap is outweighing the little joys you get, there's no point playing it.

Good luck finding someone else to pull all your shit on, I'm gonna find me a new hobby, and it's gonna be one I am solo in. Don't bother replying or sending me private messages, I have disabled notifications for both and I don't plan on coming back here. The portal server will remain as is for the moment, but if you need service, I will have to make Coco admin as he is pretty much the only one who would qualify by technical knowledge and personal trust equally.

So long asswipes,

Hey Wolf,

even if you're likely not going to read this, I simply have to reply here and can't just leave it written without a remark.

First of all: I can completely understand all of what you wrote above. I've been in numerous similar situations myself and it always completely ruined the fun I was trying to have with the game. I don't play much these days, mostly due to lack of time and other games I'm curious about. However, one of the additional reasons is that UT2004 mostly frustrated me when I played it lately. Either I have become extremely bad or all of those who were worse than me don't play the game anymore. In any case, it always seems to go like this: I join a mostly empty server. I have some fun playing with bots and then a single guy joins and owns the crap out of me. If I don't lose patience soon enough, others will join soon and make it even worse. When i lost a few rounds, all suddenly leave the server and I wonder why I've been wasting my time with all of this.

Neverthless, I plan to play some more again and try to have some fun once more - just like I had in the past years. One thing I don't quite understand is that we are in a clan and thus have some kind of community. But when clanmates join, they mostly join the other team instead of helping their clan member who's losing anyway (me in this case). You know, I'm happy to see a clanmate joining, just to find out that he's taking the last bit of fun I was trying to have. This, in my opinion, should change. Even if teams may become a little unbalanced, we should play together more often, rather than playing against each other. This would also improve our teamplay for matches. Most of us will even know how the others act in certain situations, so there should be some intuitive cooperation.

Maybe we can make our own members some more sensitive about it - especially the better ones. I think it would support the idea and feeling of a community and hopefully lead to more joy for all of us when playing the game.

Anyway, Wolf, I really hope you'll reconsider after some time! I think you'll be missed if you really quit playing. At least be me.

Should this truely be the end of your UT2004 activity (which I refuse to accept), let me say thank you for all you've done for the clan, as well as the whole UT'99 and UT2004 communities. Thanks for being a server and forum admin, for creating and providing SJPortal, for the mods and tools you made, for your financial support of FH#4, for being around when needed (for matches or just for advice), for being a great player, for all the fun we had... and for being a friend!

This is really sad news, but I also understand your point of view and agree with much of what you've said.

I haven't been playing much at all last couple of months and don't plan to, reasoning being I'm not enjoying the game like I used to, at times the UT community just seems like a bunch of a-holes all trying to one-up each other. Joined random server last week, some french guy obviously having a problem with me (saying I had a triggerbot or some crap) so I just left mid-game. I also don't see many TCPers online anymore so have lost interest, don't see much point in being in a clan if the members aren't on the same team in pubs - I always prefer being on the same team as a TCPer for sure and will normally switch over.

Wolf, if you read this, maybe you should consider taking a break then coming back. I really don't think people are intentionally changing their behaviour or play style solely vs. you? And if they really are then their not worth the effort mate, you should feel sorry for them. I think you just had an unlucky game with NmS, he was probably only playing with one hand cos he knew you could handle the other team :p.

We should all try and get on TS more; the best times with UT are when everyone's having fun and chatting imo. Had a couple of TAM matches few months back on a mate's TS and it was the most fun I've had on UT in years, even when I was losing...and the majority of people on the TS I had never even played with before, it could be so much better with you guys. All it would require would be a "wanna go on ts?" message in some random UT server if there happened to be a few of us online playing at the same time.

But, if you're really giving up UT forever (haven't we all tried to :p?) then I hope you'll stick around on the forums at least to grace us with your considerable wisdom from time to time Smile .

i agree with wolf and his view about the UT2k4 community, but i must say between all other existing E-SPORT GAMES, ut2k4 has still the best of them.
during the 10 years of ut2k4 glory the players who played this game to only enjoy the gaming left with the times
and mostly only those players kept playing who are just those players who only play to win^^
this is why the ut2k4 community turned into a rougher place with each year Smile

sry for my bad english but i think its still somehow to understand what i tried to say xD

Maybe Titanfall (call of duty with jetpacks) or Silverstreak (Cliffy B's new game)

If I know you well enough, I know you will read these comments some day Wink, so I'll give it a response. Also because you mentioned me as one of the reasons (or at least as an example as to why you got frustrated).

I can understand your frustrations that you can get from this game. Even I got my frustrations in this game, but I keep coming back to it, because it is just the best game ever! Very Happy

I remember the matches you mentioned. First game I had to play at my best, because the teams weren't balanced. The fact that I had to play at my best annoyed me to be honest. When I play on a public server, I just want to relax and have some fun, and not to be forced to play at my best (rarely I play at my best). But I don't like loosing either, so that game I had to kick it up a notch or two.

I remember you played really good that game! You either hurt me really bad or killed me during the rounds. So I actually wanted to avoid you as long as possible during a round, so I would survive a little bit longer Very Happy. But other times I was the one that killed you fast. One time I gave you a headshot right at the start of the round, followed by two 1-pixel shock hits (I could barely see you). I actually felt sorry about that one. Sorry Embarassed. In the end your team won and was well deserved.

Second game was on Stalwart-XL I believe. Teams weren't balanced again and I was in the strong team together with you. Me switching over to Red, would have made it still unbalanced. Most of the time I switch teams to balance things out, but now I just relaxed. Also because I was mentally tired from the previous game, I didn't play serious in the second. Just fooling around, but even with me not playing serious the other team still lost.

So from my point of view I am actually surprised to read you got frustrated about those games, because in the first game you played really good and strong (see screenshot!). The second game I don't know how you played, but your team won, so you did good too I guess Wink.

It has nothing to do with you personal that I play either good or bad. I didn't play lame because you were in my team, it was because I was mentally exhausted from the previous game.

I think you already know what I think of you, but I'll say it explicitly here too: You are a really nice guy Wolf and I have a lot of respect for who you are and what you have done for this clan and the community! I agree with the others we should play more often on TS again, it makes playing the game so much more personal and fun.

I think a lot of you have, just like me, a love-hate relationship with UT2004 Very Happy. When I play the game too much I start to hate it, but I keep coming back because I love the game too much and I love you guys too (no homo Razz).

Like tXc` said, maybe a break will do good. I take short breaks too from time to time. So I won't say goodbye Wolf, because I think and hope that you will stick around with us and keep playing! Even though TCP isn't that active lately and I don't play that much either, it wouldn't be the same without you!

First of all im sorry to hear that wolf, you always made ut enjoyable for me ^^

But this is the reason that I quit UT as well, not many people played the game since most left (UT3 or w.e) and the ones that did play where ass holes or cheaters (not necessarily here), hence why I havent been around much. It is also the same reason I am quitting LoL as well. Since in high elo people know who you are and just generally troll your games. I know how frustrating this can be and your not alone. For now i'm just focusing on my studies and earn a life for my self and my GF in Sweden.

I wish you the best of luck and happiness in your life Wolf, and fellow fraggers.
